by Amy Walters

It is natural for your teen to want their first car to be cool, and it is just as natural for you to want your teen’s first car to be safe. New Driver in the House Five Teen Friendly Cars to Consider

Chevy Cruze

Another good car to consider is the Chevy Cruze, or the Cruze Turbo Diesel. Both get excellent mileage, and use the StabiliTrack® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control, to help your teen keep control. It comes with 10 standard airbags, and in case of a collision, reports to OnStar® via the OnStar Automatic Crash Response System

Ford Focus

A great candidate for a good, teen-friendly, and safe car is the Ford Focus. There is even an electric model for those who want to protect the earth. The Focus has an EPA-estimated mileage of 26/36. Their safety features include AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control and Safety Canopy® side-curtain airbags in the first and second rows.

Honda Civic

You might consider the Honda Civic, and there are seven models of Civic to choose from, with between 31/41 MPG, depending on the model. The Civic is the 2013 IIHS Safety + Pick. All Honda Civics come with the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ II body structure, which distributes the energy from a crash more evenly. This reduces the forces that transfer to the passenger department if a collision occurs.

Mazda 6

The Mazda 6, is one such car. It has the looks your teen wants, and also has the safety features you need. It has been praised for its fuel economy, and the EPA is estimated at 25/37 MPG. Its Sky-Active engine and transmission are lightweight, but stronger and more responsive than most comparable auto parts, as is the Sky-Active frame. It includes front and side airbags, and anti-lock brakes. Find a dealer for a Mazda 6 in Kansas City when you are ready to buy.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is another car that will satisfy both you and your teen. The Camry, and the Camry hybrid, look sharp, but have the safety features you want in a car for your teen. The estimated MPG is 25/35 on the gas-driven models, and approximately 40/39 on the hybrids. In addition to the Star Safety System™ , the car comes with ten standard airbags, and includes driver and front passenger Whiplash-Injury-Lessening seats.

No matter which of the cars you choose for your teen – the Toyota Camry, the Honda Civic, the Ford Focus, the Chevy Cruze, or the Mazda 6, you will be picking a car that will satisfy your teen’s need for a sharp looking car, while ensuring that the car is one with the best safety features.
